Following Rules and Routines
Order and Routine Make for a Happy Child
Does your child remind you what comes next on the schedule, or where each of his toys goes? Children at this age are not only capable of responding to your simple directions and rules, but often have a strong desire for keeping order and a daily routine. It gives your child an understanding of his world and defines his boundaries. To help him with his Following Rules and Routines skills, keep the rules constant and be sure to praise positive behavior. Create a daily routine, perhaps even with a calendar to show different upcoming activities, and help him get through transitions with a heads up and possibly a fun game or song.
