Small Muscle Movement and Dexterity

Opening Doors, Literally

Take a step back, and think about all the fine motor tasks that your child is capable of now: turning door knobs, unscrewing jar lids, turning paper book pages (as opposed to board books), zipping zippers, stringing beads, using tongs, and putting together a puzzle. It wasn't too long ago that he couldn't do many of these tasks, but his growing Small Muscle Movement and Dexterity skills have made it possible. Give him a variety of new and interesting objects to explore, such as lacing cards, smaller building blocks, and tweezers, to make building the small muscles in his hands more fun.

Has your toddler achieved the following Small Muscle Movement and Dexterity developmental milestones yet? If yes, check off all the skill(s) he has already mastered to date!
