Self-Control

How to Combat the Negative with Positive Discipline

As your child grows into a toddler and becomes more and more independent, there are bound to be clashes between what she wants to do and what you, as a parent, want her to do. Whether you need to rein her in for her safety or your sanity (How many times a day can you say, "Inside voice, please!"), consider using positive discipline for the greatest effect and happiness on all sides. Positive discipline looks at the root cause of the behavior, and gives you tools to gently and calmly correct your toddler's behavior. It may be as simple as offering choices or modeling the behavior you'd like to see.

Has your toddler achieved the following Self-Control developmental milestones yet? If yes, check off all the skill(s) she has already mastered to date!
