Appreciation and Knowledge of Books and Stories

Your Child Learning to "Read" on Her Own

Your child may be enjoying a new activity while Reading Books and Stories: imitative, or pretend, reading. She will look at her favorite stories on her own, and often be able to recite the story from memory. Another way you can help her read on her own is to supply her book and audio sets, which let her follow along while listening to a recording, giving her a feeling of independence as she "reads" without the help of Mom or Dad. If she has some favorite subjects, try to provide books on these topics to build her knowledge of what she's interested in.

Has your child achieved the following Reading Books and Stories developmental milestones yet? If yes, check off all the skill(s) she has already mastered to date!
