A Budding Artist! Ways to Nurture Your Child's Interest in Making Art

Your child is reaching the stage of drawing where his art clearly represents people, animals, and objects. Gone are the days of the simple scribbles, and now you'll start to see family members with simple but recognizable features, such as Mom's long hair or Dad's glasses. You may see a simple drawing of your home, with details that are important to him. Maybe your car in the driveway, the tree in the yard, or his dog playing with a ball. Colors may not be realistic at this point and simply reflect his favorites. So don't get concerned if the whole picture is done in red! Sizes are not in proportion yet, either, so don't be surprised if he's the same height as you, the dog, a tree, and the house in his drawing.

Has your child achieved the following Art Appreciation and Creation developmental milestones yet? If yes, check off all of the skill(s) he has already mastered to date.
