Drawing People for Real! The Evolution of Drawing People
Between the ages of four and five, children typically reach a new stage of drawing. Until this point, you may have seen a lot of scribbles or the beginning of shapes. Your child may have named these shapes, even though they look nothing at all like what he tells you they are. At this next stage, however, his drawings will begin to actually be somewhat representative of what they are! They are still far from detailed, but they are moving in that direction. Pictures of people will be seen regularly, and they will move from a simple circle with legs to featuring more and more body parts! Don't worry if some significant body parts are missing, like the trunk. Children at this stage typically focus on what they find most important at the time.
