Parenting: A Call to Play

Parenting: A Call to Play

When I was expecting my daughter Gemma, I poured over books, talked with experts, and visited dozens of websites. After all, I’d never been a parent before, and I wanted to get it right! At times, I felt overwhelmed by all the information out there. Since then, I’ve learned that the best expert on parenting is my own child. As I watch her grow, I continually learn new things about how her mind works and what she needs.

You probably have similar feelings. Nothing in life is as important to you as your child’s healthy growth and development. But parenting shouldn’t feel overwhelming or exhausting. We can all agree that while parenting is challenging, it is also immensely fulfilling, and at times it might even be fun and amusing.

Here at Playful Bee, we believe that play is a child’s first work. In this blog, we’ll feature fresh insights on what to expect in your child’s early learning and development, as well as offer cutting edge research on parent-led, play-based learning in the form of insightful articles, play activities, videos, and expert interviews. I'm the momma of Gemma, a curious 3-year old, and Foxin, a rambling 1-year old, so I'm deep in the trenches every day, just like you. I'm deeply passionate about early childhood education and policy. On any given day, you'll find me 1) running a mile a minute chasing after my tots, 2) busy at work with Playful Bee, 3) cuddling with my dogs, 4) chowing down on a delicious meal with my hubby, and 5) enjoying a bit of zen during a hot stone massage. As young parents, our days may be long and years short, but ahhhh...life can be good if we let it.
