Materials:

  • Large sheets of paper
  • Crayons
  • Flat, textured objects (e.g. leaf, lace, fabric, carpet, etc.)
  • Tape

Directions:

  1. Describe textures. Collect your flat textured objects. Describe them using comparative terms (e.g. smooth, bumpy, veiny, etc).
  2. Prepare to color. Tape a piece paper on top of the textured objects on a table top.
  3. Color. Encourage your little artist to scribble over the textured objects using crayons.
  4. Discuss. Talk to your child about how it feels as she colors over the different objects and the patterns that emerge on the paper.
