Toy Match Up: A Matching Game for 9-12 Months


A matching game is a fun way for a child to learn and recognize differences. Toy Match Up is a math activity from Playful Bee for ages 9-12 months that will help your child explore patterns, understand the concepts of Same & Different, 2-D, and 3-D, and practice fine motor skills.

Materials:

  • Picture cards of various objects and animals, including your child’s favorite things
  • Toy or real version of the objects and animals

Directions:

  1. Match a card with the object. Place the toy or real version of the object and/or animal on top of the picture card on the floor for your child to observe.
  2. Let your child explore. Let your child play with the toy or real version while you point out the object and its features in the picture.
  3. Discuss same and different. Draw comparisons of the features shown in the picture card versus the toy.
  4. Repeat. Try this with various subjects and toys.
