Stretching and Gross Motor Development: Cat Stretches
Cat Stretches, an activity from Playful Bee for ages 9-12 months, will have your baby moving, crawling, and stretching. This playful activity is designed to get your baby’s different muscle groups moving and encourage pretend play.
Directions:
- Get in crawling position. Position your baby in crawling position. Kneel beside him on your hands and knees.
- Rock and play. Begin to rock side to side, and then back and forth. Encourage your child to mimic your movements and add in meows and mews for extra giggles.
- Stretch. Once your baby gets the hang of mimicking your movements, show him how to slowly arch and then stretch his back into different catlike positions. Start your movements small and slow, so he doesn’t feel left out, and give lots of encouragement.
