Grasping Scarves and Strings: Develop Your Baby’s Fine Motor Skills

Grasping Scarves and Strings, one of Playful Bee’s activities designed for your 0 – 3 month old, helps you improve your baby’s Fine Motor Skills, Sensory Exploration, Hand-Eye Coordination and Language Reception all while bonding through playtime, and even diaper time!

Materials:

  • A colorful scarf or string 6″-10″ in length
  • (Optional) Wooden beads tied to the end of the scarf or string

Directions:

  1. Introduce scarf play. Place the scarf in your baby’s hand and gently pull it along her hand.
  2. Grasp scarf. Hang the scarf from your neck while you hold or change her diaper and encourage her to reach for and grasp it as you pull.
  3. Talk about the experience. Discuss with your baby how the scarf and/or beads feel in her hands. Is it soft? Silky? Hard?
