Materials:
- Labels
- Markers
- Selection of your child’s favorite toys and books
- Selection of personal objects that you use often
Directions:
- Label toys and objects. Label each object with your names to show who owns each one.
- Show and tell. Have a show and tell with your child. Discuss who owns each object.
- Share. Teach your child how to ask nicely when she wants to use other people’s possessions. Discuss the importance of taking care of the objects and how to return the borrowed objects and say “thank you for sharing.” Encourage her to invite others to share her possessions as well.
- Practice good manners. While your child may not understand the concept of ownership and possession right away, she will gradually learn how to ask for permission and share with continued reinforcement of this lesson.
